Common Questions
Intake Process and FAQs
WHAT IS YOUR INTAKE PROCESS?
After your Initial Consultation, you will receive a confidential email with HIPAA-compliant Intake paperwork to complete before your first session.
For couples, each partner must fill out separate Intake paperwork. You will also have the opportunity to review and sign:
- Business Policies and Procedures
- Informed Consent & Confidentiality Agreement
Payments are made securely via Square at the end of each session, and you will receive a receipt for insurance reimbursement.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I/WE COME FOR SESSIONS?
The counseling process varies by individual or couple:
- Some feel better after just a few sessions.
- Others require more time and support to achieve meaningful change.
The goal is to work toward Graduation! with "tune-ups" only as needed. Throughout the process, I check in to ensure our work aligns with your established goals, moving you toward your happier, more fulfilled life as quickly as possible.
WHY SHOULDN'T I JUST TAKE MEDICATION?
Medication can be helpful, but it doesn’t address the deeper issues causing your struggles. Together, we’ll explore and unpack your challenges to achieve lasting change:
- Identify the "thorn in your foot": What’s holding you back or causing pain.
- Expand on what works: Build on your strengths.
- Teach new tools: Develop skills and strategies to address what’s not working.
- Tie it all together: Create a path to permanent, positive change for a happier life.
Medication may support this process, but therapy provides the foundation for long-term healing.
HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?
- Standard Sessions: 45 minutes (individuals, families, couples).
- Extended Sessions: 90 minutes recommended for couples, allowing for more focused time together, which often leads to faster progress and relief.
While extended sessions cost more per visit, the faster progress typically balances out the overall investment.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Life happens, and I strive to be understanding of emergencies (illness, child care issues, work crises, etc.).
- No charge for true emergencies.
- Full charge for sessions missed or canceled within 24 hours of your appointment time, unless due to an emergency.
Inclement Weather Policy:I follow the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) cancellation guidelines. However, if you can safely make it to the office (I have 4-wheel drive), please let me know if you'd still like to come in.
